Elon Musk’s Henchmen Feeding Sensitive Government Data Into AI

“Rest assured, there’s nothing shady or inappropriate happening here.”

A Nightmarish Situation Unfolds

In a bizarre turn of events, it has come to light that while Elon Musk’s team was supposedly assisting a government agency, they were covertly feeding sensitive data into AI software without anyone’s knowledge.

According to The Washington Post, employees at the Department of Government Efficiency, some of whom are teenagers, have been utilizing AI technology to delve into the Education Department’s programs and finances, all in an effort to reduce federal spending as part of Musk’s initiative.

The specifics of the tool remain murky, but it is known that the AI software is accessed through Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service. The data being scrutinized includes information on grant managers and confidential financial records.

Despite these revelations, the education department’s new deputy assistant secretary for communications assures that everything is being handled above board.

In a statement to WaPo, Madi Biedermann emphasized that the staff is dedicated to enhancing the Department’s efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability to taxpayers. “Rest assured, there’s nothing shady or inappropriate happening here,” Biedermann stated.

Driven by Data

Beyond the ethical concerns surrounding Musk’s involvement and the young DOGE employees accessing sensitive information, the use of AI in this manner raises serious safety issues.

Under the previous Biden administration, federal agencies were advised against utilizing AI until comprehensive safety testing and guidelines were established, as noted by WaPo.

Additionally, other large organizations like banks and Amazon have restricted employees from using advanced AI models due to fears of data breaches. Numerous studies have also highlighted the security vulnerabilities in leading AI models, making them susceptible to cyberattacks.

Alondra Nelson, an AI policy expert under the Biden administration, expressed concerns about the unchecked use of AI in society. “Do we want these tools deployed in government and society without proper safeguards?” Nelson questioned.

According to sources cited by WaPo and recent reports, Musk and DOGE intend to use AI to trim government programs, including diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

An anonymous education department staffer revealed that DOGE employees are swiftly gathering vast amounts of information, including personal data of millions of federal student loan recipients, according to the report.

“They have a strategy to obtain access to the data,” the staffer disclosed to WaPo. “Once they’re in, it’s virtually impossible to stop them.”
