It was the day after Christmas when Todd, now 59, received the devastating news: “You have cancer.” The timing couldn’t have been worse, with the holiday cheer still lingering in the air. Todd recalls, “There’s never a good time to hear that, but the week between Christmas and New Year’s was quite possibly the worst.”
Todd and Diane are volunteers with the SHARE Network, a Johnson & Johnson program that consists of individuals dedicated to inspiring others through their health journeys and stories of compassion.
Moderate back pain led Todd to seek medical help, thinking it was just a minor issue. However, an MRI revealed multiple lesions on his spine and a tumor on his hip, pointing to a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable type of blood cancer. The news was a shock, and Todd and Diane spent the rest of the holiday season researching and finding a specialist to guide them through this complex disease.
The journey to find answers led Todd to a hematologist oncologist in California, specializing in multiple myeloma. Shared decision-making with his care team led to a treatment plan involving DARZALEX FASPRO, a therapy approved by the FDA in 2024 for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients eligible for autologous stem cell transplant.
Throughout his treatment, Todd emphasized the importance of being proactive in his healthcare decisions and advocating for himself. He highlights the significance of seeking expert opinions and staying informed about treatment options.
With Diane by his side every step of the way, Todd prioritized making memories with loved ones and not letting cancer define their lives. They continue to live life to the fullest, cherishing every moment, from family milestones to vacations and celebrations.
Passionate about raising awareness about multiple myeloma, Todd and Diane now support other patients and caregivers on their journeys. They aim to inspire hope and empower individuals facing similar challenges.
In closing, Todd emphasizes the importance of staying positive and hopeful throughout the cancer journey. He believes in the power of research and advocacy work to bring about advancements in cancer treatment. It’s not just about looking back at progress made but also looking forward to what lies ahead.
