Joe Rogan made desperate rule-change plea to UFC that was immediately rejected – UFC News

Joe Rogan recently shared a fascinating insight into his efforts to improve fighter safety in the UFC. Despite his advocacy for the sport’s relative safety, he revealed on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, that he once made a plea to the owners of the UFC for a rule change that would have made the sport safer for fighters. Unfortunately, his request fell on deaf ears.

Having been involved with the UFC since 1997, initially as a ringside and backstage reporter before transitioning to a colour commentator role, Rogan has always been a strong supporter of the sport. In a recent episode of his podcast, he discussed with UFC lightweight Jiri Prochazka how he urged the super-agent and CEO of Endeavour, the UFC’s ownership group, to eliminate weight cutting when they acquired the promotion in 2016.

Rogan proposed the elimination of weight cutting as a means to enhance fighter safety. He suggested implementing random weight tests to prevent fighters from dangerously cutting weight before fights. Additionally, he advocated for the creation of more weight classes to narrow the gaps between fighters’ weights and ensure fairer matchups.

His ideas included introducing weight classes every 10 pounds to provide fighters with more suitable opponents based on their natural weight. Rogan emphasized the importance of fighters competing at weights that are healthy for them, without the need for extreme weight cutting practices.

Despite his efforts to push for these changes, Rogan’s plea did not result in any immediate action from the UFC. Nonetheless, his dedication to improving fighter safety and promoting fair competition in the sport remains unwavering.
